Who is John Kiriakou?

The host of UNIFYD TV's original, "CIA Declassified" is more than just a whistleblower. John Kiriakou dared to reveal what the government wanted buried, paid the price, and continues his mission to expose the corruption within the system.

John Chris Kiriakou is a former CIA insider turned whistleblower, journalist, and author—an unlikely rebel who shattered the silence surrounding the agency’s darkest secrets. Now a columnist for Reader Supported News and co-host of Political Misfits on Sputnik Radio, Kiriakou risked everything to pull back the curtain on the CIA’s brutal interrogation tactics.

As a seasoned intelligence analyst and operations officer within the CIA's Counterterrorism Center, Kiriakou also served as a senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and consulted for ABC News.

But in December 2007, he made headlines and history by becoming the first U.S. government official to confirm that al-Qaeda detainees were subjected to waterboarding—a technique he boldly labeled as torture.

The cost of truth was steep. In 2012, Kiriakou became the only CIA officer ever convicted for revealing details of the agency’s enhanced interrogation program, after passing classified information to a journalist. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison—paying the price not for committing torture, but for daring to expose it.
