The Heroine's Journey: A Guidebook 📕

Western society loves the Hero’s Journey. Joseph Campbell, who first identified this mythic structure, described the Hero’s Journey as "the mono-myth", or the singular myth repeated across cultures, civilizations, and time periods. We return to this structure so often that some academics argue that the Hero’s Journey is the only story we’ve ever really told or identified with.

But it's not.

The Heroine’s Journey is its counterpart and is a story of agency and power. A Heroine begins her story a powerless victim, then embarks on a journey of awakening that reveals the power within. Unlike the Hero’s Journey, in which a Hero explores the world in order to find his authentic self and his role in society, the Heroine’s Journey is an inward process of self-discovery in which she reclaims what has always been hers.
