Thanks for your insight Audrey. Yes, I think so. Yet there is the question of what is the fastest way to cause a mass awakening in the shortest time. I know that losing a loved one can cause one to develop empathy, compassion and consideration for others. Whereas a selfish ignorant person harming others will likely learn nothing and not change in one lifetime. And if energy cannot be destroyed and we are infinite, could mass pain experienced in a short period of time (say over a 3 year period) prevent the necessity for a prolonged period of pain (hundreds or thousands of years) and cause a mass evolution in our consciousness faster? The selfish and ignorant would not evolve in such a scenario although. Maybe they would receive karma in their next lifetime and then awaken?
