It’s Not “Just the Way Things Go”

When can we truly hear Hashem’s voice in our lives? Chazal teaches: only when we shake off the dust of confusion and false beliefs. As long as we chalk life up to “nature” or “coincidence,” Hashem’s voice remains muffled. That misbelief actually exiles the Shechinah itself—because it disconnects us from the truth.

The Chovot HaLevavot reminds us that our job is to invest minimal effort in parnassah and put maximum trust in Hashem. True inner peace flows from knowing our effort is a mitzvah—not a strategy. We’re emulating Hashem by engaging in creation, but we must remember: the outcome is never our doing. It’s all His orchestration.

If we treat life as a series of lucky breaks or random hardships, we’re warned: “I too will behave with you as if by chance.” (Vayikra 26:27–28) That’s not punishment—it’s consequence. It means Hashem will withhold the clarity of His hand until we’re ready to see Him again.

No matter how natural things may appear, they are always Divinely tailored. There’s no such thing as coincidence. Every twist and turn is a sacred rerouting, lovingly leading us back home to Hashem.

Don’t Hand Over the Reins

We are asked to make an effort in life—not because Hashem needs our effort, but because it’s part of our rectification since Adam HaRishon. Yet, the danger begins when we start believing the success is ours. The Midrash in Parshat Pinchas warns that the yetzer hara feeds off our effort, making us think we earned the outcome by our “might and wisdom.”

But true emuna isn’t about sitting back—it’s about stepping forward without attachment to our power. The Maggid of Mezritch teaches that when we put our trust in anything but Hashem, we sever the flow of Divine intervention. We become entangled in false dependencies and outcomes shaped by concealment, not clarity.

Rav Dessler ztk”l brings clarity to this: the real purpose of human effort is to reveal Hashem in this world. Even what looks like nature is just Hashem in costume. There is no such thing as “natural causes”—only the illusion of them.

The highest level of trust is when we see no difference between a miracle and an ordinary event. All of it is Hashem’s doing. But most of us still react differently to a “miracle” than to a “coincidence.” The more our emuna deepens, the less we feel the need to hustle. The lighter our hand in this world, the heavier Hashem’s presence becomes.

Let your emuna do the heavy lifting. Results were never your job to begin with.

Have you ever noticed that the more you dwell on problems, the more they seem to multiply? It's not just coincidence; it's the power of focus at work. When we fixate on obstacles, we inadvertently invite more of the same into our lives.

But here's the good news: by shifting our attention to solutions, we can transform our reality. This isn't about ignoring challenges but approaching them with a mindset that seeks answers and growth. Turn to Hashem for all your needs. His office is always open, there’s no call waiting, and you get to speak directly to the Manager. You don’t need the right words, you don’t need an appointment, and you don’t have to pretend you’re okay. Just speak – He already understands every thought, even the ones still taking shape.

How to protect yourself from the evil eye

1. Credit your Creator. The moment you get anything good-say thank you. You’re a vessel, not the source. Humility protects.

2. Someone gives you a negative eye? Send them a positive one. Flip the energy.

3. Be grateful. When you live in gratitude, you show everything you have is from above— and no one can touch that.

4. Don’t give it energy. Don’t feed it with fear. Fear attracts energy. Faith repels it.

There’s nothing wrong with having things. The problem? Flaunting it for validation. Stay private. Stay protected. Stay full on the inside.

You Are a Note in the Symphony

The final perek of Tehillim isn’t just a conclusion—it’s a crescendo. A soul-stirring chorus of instruments, harmonies, and praises all converging into one thunderous Hallelukah. Every blast, strum, beat, and breath is a piece of Divine music. And so are you.

You, sweet soul, are an irreplaceable note in Hashem’s orchestra. Whether you feel like a proud trumpet or a soft harp, your sound matters. Without your presence, the music would lose its fullness.

Hashem is the great Conductor. He writes the score. He knows exactly when and how each soul should play its part. Even in dissonance, there's a Divine arrangement leading toward harmony.

Truly Small

Love, Happiness and Worry

Worry is the opposite of faith. It is the worship of the forces of nature, the power of illness, the dynamics of the market, the belief that these and mortal beings are the masters of your life.

Faith is the inner knowledge that there is really nothing else but His abundant love. It is the conviction that you have only one Master, and His love to you knows no bounds.

And that if you cannot see this love, it is because it is such awesome love, it flows to you in ways far beyond your comprehension.

If so, when His caress seems harsh, embrace it with joy. When His kisses pour down in a torrent beyond your capacity to endure, open wide.

Perhaps He is carrying you higher, closer, far beyond your tiny cell into a vast palace of blinding light. Because He desires your closeness.

Perhaps He is cleansing your body and soul, your universe and all it contains, finely tuning them to resonate with His infinite presence.

Open your heart, your mind, your soul, and all entry to His Infinite Light.

The relentless forces of nature, the pain of the body, the vicissitudes of the market, the angry power of human beings—your eyes will open and they will dissipate into oblivion. For they are nothing more than channels of endless love from an infinite G‑d.

This is happiness: Life with Him alone.

Freedom Out of Darkness

Free choice is the quintessential expression of G‑d, for He alone is truly free. G‑d breathes within the human being, and so we too become free to choose our path home.

Darkness, confusion and the possibility of evil—all this then has a purpose of its own: It provides a stage for us to find G‑d within ourselves, when we make the right choice, all on our own.
