Consciousness IS Primary

I have a quote I keep at the top of my daily and weekly to-do lists “Consciousness Is Primary.”

Everything in your life is shaped by the state of consciousness you live from. In fact, The Slonimer Rebbe would say this is the deeper meaning of the Mishna that says “Baal Korcha Atah Chai - against your will you live,” meaning - like it or not, you will live as the expression of your inner state of consciousness.

When you’re in survival consciousness, you experience:

Pressure

Fear

Reactivity

Control

Exhaustion

And I don’t need to tell you, but what type of person do you become when you’re living in that painful reactive state? It’s not the person you care to be.

But when you’re in awakened consciousness, you experience:

Presence

Intuition

Alignment

Love

Wisdom

Energy

The circumstances might be the same but you are different. What kind of person are you when you feel love, joy, and peace? What kind of person are you when you feel good?

This is why true spirituality is not about adding more beliefs, more rules, more pressure, or more perfectionism. Spirituality is all about raising your state of consciousness.

The shift in state is both a means and an end. Because when your consciousness shifts, your life shifts. And as your life shifts, your consciousness expands even further.

Please Divine Source of All:

May the leaders of our country raise their consciousness and their consciences to come together for justice and equity, to feed the hungry, to provide affordable health care and heal deep rifts, suspicion and "othering" May they renew E Pluribus Unum - government rooted deeply in civil rights and true freedom of expression, committed to ending war and distributing resources around the Globe to repair and heal for the sake of Tikkun.

Man should ponder thoughtfully how great are the kindnesses of the Creator: Such a puny insignificant being, Man, can bring great delight to the "Greatest of all great"' of Whom it is written, "There is no delving into His greatness."1 Man ought therefore always be inspired, and perform his avoda with an eager heart and spirit.

Framing the Past

We’re told that you can’t change what happened in the past, but you can change how you frame it. And we’re offered a range of different lenses: acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude.

We must ask ourselves, what is the shape of my life?

Your Thoughts Are Seeds — Plant Wisely

BS’D

“Thoughts are not fleeting—they are spiritual creations with eternal impact.”

Our Chassidic masters teach that thoughts are like water—constantly in motion and capable of nourishing the soul. When rooted in holiness, thoughts create positive spiritual energy and even affect others for the good.

But what happens when the mind is filled with Pharaoh-like negativity—thoughts that say “you can’t,” “you’re stuck,” or “you’ll never change”?

We battle those inner voices with intentionality. Emuna teaches us that we are not victims of our thoughts—we are their stewards.

Here are a few powerful tools for reshaping your inner world:

  • Fill your mind with Torah – an empty mind attracts negative thoughts.

  • Visualize Hashem’s presence – see yourself being lifted, supported, and loved.

  • Cry out for help – the Torah is your weapon against the yetzer hara.

  • Begin your day with gratitude – it resets your emotional tone.

Remember: You choose what to do with each thought.

The Wrong Desire

Many of us on the spiritual path are driven to experience something other than what we’re experiencing right now. That’s not a desire for enlightenment. That’s a desire to escape.
